Please make a charitable donation of a unit of your blood this Lenten season. One unit of blood can save up to three lives. Donating is a real act of love.
Council 1369 hosted its second and final blood drive of the year in SSPP’s Zuker Hall on Saturday, September 25th. We didn’t hit our goal of 191 units, but we still had a very successful drive by collecting 134 units. In our two drives last year we collected a total of 271 units. This year in two drives we collected 332 units for an increase of 61 units or 23%.
I would like to thank the 15 Knights who made phone calls soliciting donations, the 4 Knights and two wives who stuffed bulletins with fliers, the 14 Knights and numerous family members who solicited donations after all of the Masses one weekend, the 3 Knights plus family members and SSPP’s Parish Nurse who worked the drive, the 20 Knights who showed up to donate blood either at the event or at Heartland’s Center, and a special thanks goes out to Dan Parker who put all of the announcements on our website and developed the program by which many of you volunteered for the various duties. Hosting a successful drive is truly a council wide event, and all of you who helped can take a lot of pride in the job you’ve done. The 332 units we’ve collected this year have the potential when divided into their various components of saving 996 lives. That is truly an awesome pro-life accomplishment!
Thank you all for your help.
The Blood Drive is this Saturday, Sept. 25 from 7:00 AM until 12:30 PM in SSPP’s Zuker Hall (the lower level of the Junior High building).
If you are able to donate please do so. There is no greater gift you can give someone than the Gift of Life, and that is exactly what you are doing when you donate.
You can still make an appointment by calling Darrell Hutton at 630-961-0526. Or, you can walk-in at your convenience any time after 9:00 AM. The early hours are usually the most crowded, so late morning is a good time to walk-in.
If you can’t make it on the 25th, and would still like to donate, you can go to Heartland’s Blood Center in the Market Meadows Shopping Center anytime through October 9, give the receptionist our sponsor code 100918, and our drive will receive credit for your donation.

Our big Tootsie Roll Drive / Blood Drive Sign-up weekend 9/17-18 & 19 is rapidly approaching, and many volunteers are still needed for both events. If you’ve been procrastinating volunteering for either or both of these very important events now is the time! Simply click here, select the event you want to volunteer for, and select any of the green available time slots to sign up. List your name, e-mail address, and phone number and hit ”sign up”, and the job is done. You will receive an e-mail message confirming your selected date, time, and location.
Your help is badly needed, so please sign up now.
Council 1369 will host their second and last blood drive of the year on Saturday, September 25th in SSPP’s Zuker Hall. Heartland Blood Center will once again be drawing the blood. The hours of the drive are from 7:00 AM until 12:30 PM. Walk-in’s are welcome after 9:00 AM.
As in the past, many volunteers will be needed both as donors and workers to make the drive a success. Sixteen Knights have already stepped forward and volunteered to call previous donors seeking donation appointments. Additional workers will be needed on Friday, Sept. 17th to stuff fliers in Mass bulletins, at least two Knights will be required to sign up donors after each Mass at SSPP the weekends of Sept. 11 & 12, and 18 & 19, and a couple Knights are needed to work the event itself. Twenty three 1369 Knights donated blood at our March drive. Hopefully, an even larger number will donate at this drive. Requests to fill each of these needs will be broadcast over our web site. If you can help, please – please do so. Don’t assume someone else has answered the call and ignore the request, because so often they haven’t.
Donating blood and working on the drive are some of the most important charitable activities that we as a council perform. One unit of blood, when broken down into its components of red blood cells, platelets, and plasma has the potential of saving as many as three lives! Those lives could be yours, that of a member of your family, a neighbor, or a brother Knight. All of the blood collected by Heartland at our drive will stay right here in our area at Edward, Central DuPage, and Rush – Copley hospitals to name only a few. Heartland has been the exclusive supplier of blood to Edward for years.
So, if you can, please sign up to make a blood donation. If for some reason you will be unable to donate on Sept. 25, you can donate at Heartland’s center in the Market Meadows Shopping Center between Sept. 1 and Oct. 10, give the receptionist our sponsor code of 100918, and we will receive credit for your donation. The need is great. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to help with the drive please contact Darrell Hutton at 630-961-0526 or darrell.hutton@sbcglobal.net.
We can use some help again this weekend, at SSPP, with our after Mass blood donor sign-up. Listening to the weather report, it sounds like we will be standing inside for most of the Masses. We don’t have anyone signed up for the 5:00 pm on Sat. or the 6:30 am, 8:00 am, 9:30 am, 12:30pm, or 5:30 pm all on Sun. at the church. If you can help with any of these Masses please contact Darrell Hutton at 630-961-0526 or darrell.hutton@sbcglobal.net ASAP.
Many thanks to all of the Knights who took part in this weekend’s after Mass donor sign-up. Seventeen donors signed up! If we can do as well next weekend, we should end up with 35 to 40 from this effort. There are still some openings in next weekend’s schedule, so if you can help please contact Darrell Hutton at 630-961-0526 or darrell.hutton@sbcglobal.net.
