2009 Tootsie Roll Drive Results!

All the deposits are in the bank and we had a very successful Tootsie Roll Drive. We will definitely be able to help our client organizations in a great way.

The keys to success

1. The Novena requested of Father Milota at our Sept. Knights meeting for good weather was a huge success; prayers answered. Perfect weather.

Thanks Father!

2. More feet on the street! This year we had record breaking numbers of volunteers, over 140 volunteers, some that hadn’t been active in the Knights for years and said “thanks for calling me, I need to get more involved”. This amounted to roughly 400 volunteer hours put in by these folks being on the street and working the hall counting money. I know my brother Knights and I met a lot more people that we had not known before and hopefully built some new acquaintances.

Thanks Brother Knights and also Thanks to my support committee/captains – Terry Ross, Larry Pociask, and Al Knoeck.

3. Great support from the Religious Ed teens. Over 27 teens volunteered to help us out; wow!

Thanks Theresa Pratt!

4. Scouts came out in “packs”!! :) With a very short leadtime due to packs not being finalized yet, we had 8 Scouts come out to help and some did double shifts, great job Scouts.

Thanks Liz Zurek!

5. More locations. This year we had 15 locations that we worked and already planning on more for next year!!! Can you say Farmers Market?? Naperville Saturday Football games??

6. A web magician that put signups on the website and next year is planning an auto signup with reminders.

Thanks Dan Parker!

7. Advertising and phonathon support from our bulletin staff and also meeting room staff.

Thanks Gloria Villasenor and Mary Werner!

8. Thanks to the volunteers at Special Needs Camp who sent 4 Camp youth counselors and also to Western DuPage Special Rec Activities who sent 12 young adults with learning challenges to help us work two of our store locations (I will provide thanks to them via postal mailing). It was great to meet them and they are the reason we do our drive. I know I have a much greater appreciation for the drive and what it is about as a result of being with them and working the drive with them.

All the keys added up to a new record collection for national and local charities!

Thanks again to all for a great drive and also to God for His generosity upon those that will receive the blessings of our work.

Tootsie Roll Drive Volunteers Needed

Are you ready to collect for the annual Tootsie Roll Drive?  Let’s make this the best year ever! Please visit our 2009 Tootsie Roll Volunteer Signup page, or contact Michael Gach, if you can volunteer to help out for the K of C Tootsie Roll Drive coming up on September 18th, 19th, and 20th. We will need lots of resources this year as we have more sites than last year to cover (10 sites plus SSPP and St. Thomas the Apostle) – and we just got approved to collect donations at Sam’s Club on Route 59 on both Friday and Saturday (all day – both days).  So, this could be the biggest year ever but in order to make that happen, we need your help. Please signup ASAP! Help is needed on:

  • 9/18/09 – Friday: 5:30 – 9:30 AM and 3 – 7 PM (for the just approved Sam’s Club we need help from 10 AM – 6 PM)
  • 9/19/09 – Saturday: We will be collecting from 8 AM – 6 PM at various sites (start and end time will  vary by site).
  • 9/20/09 – Saturday night and Sunday: after all the Masses.  I have already received volunteer help from the Religious Ed Director for the Masses but want to also have at least one or two Knights at each Mass (i.e. two at Masses that are held both in the church and MC). We’ll also be receiving help from the Scouts at the stores.

St. Raphael Council Golf Outing

St. Raphael Council is having its annual golf outing at Tamarack Golf Club on Saturday, July 18th. It would be great if our council could support them with a couple of foursomes. They have been supportive of our events such as our golf tournament and Christmas Party to name two.

Let Al Knoeck know if you are interested in playing.

Ladies Auxiliary – Volunteers Needed

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus is hosting the Ice Cream Social at the Naperville band concert on July 30 at the Central Park band shell.

Volunteers are needed to bake cakes, cookies, cupcakes, pies, etc., and to serve food at the event (5 to 7 PM and/or 7 to 9 PM).

If you can bake and/or help serve, please contact Rita Hutton at 630-961-0526 or darrell.hutton@sbcglobal.net, or Maureen Beckwith at 630-333-3266 or maureen.beckwith@ferguson.com A.S.A.P.

Knights of Columbus Bean Bag Tournament

Our Council will be sponsoring a Bean Bag Toss Tournament on Sunday, June 28th from 3:30 to 7:00 PM. It will be held in the parking lot at the KC Hall. This is a TEAMS only tournament, whether they are men, ladies or couples, you will be competing against each other. Tournament play and rules will depend upon the number of entrants. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. The number of teams is limited to 24. We plan on setting up six courts in the gravel area of the parking lot. If you have access to a set of platforms and some bags, please let us know – we would like to borrow them. In that the KC lot will be closed that afternoon, you will be able to park your cars in the lot that is north of the KC Hall (please enter on Wright Street which is the first street west of the hall).

Reservations for this event are REQUIRED. Please contact Frank McGee at 630-926-5974 to make a reservation for yourself, your team and any others that will attending no later than June 21st (also, please have the courtesy to cancel your reservation if it becomes necessary). You may also contact Larry Pociask at 630-355-1789. The entry fee for the tournament is $20.00 per person which includes food and drink – adults, not participating in the tournament, is $7.00 and children (K-12) is $4.00. Those not participating in the tournament should have an opportunity to play after tournament play has been completed. Please note that this is a fund raising event and that the proceeds will assist our Council in paying dues for those Knights that are experiencing financial difficulties during these rough economic times.
